Egypt extends tax relief initiative deadlines

Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk has issued a decision granting unregistered taxpayers an additional three-month grace period to benefit from tax relief incentives and voluntarily register without retrospective accountability.
Another three-month extension has also been approved to receive applications for “facilitated settlements” of tax disputes concerning pre-2020 periods, real estate transaction taxes, and capital gains tax on unlisted securities. The move is in direct response to business community appeals, under the slogan: “Together… a new beginning.”
Kouchouk affirmed the government’s commitment to a progressive tax reform path rooted in open dialogue with the business sector to address challenges practically. The goal is to simplify procedures, ease the burden on taxpayers, and enhance voluntary compliance, thus creating fiscal space for continued tax facilitation packages.
He added that the ministry is keen to ensure fair and realistic evaluation of the first tax relief package’s implementation through independent entities assessing tax performance from the taxpayers’ perspective. This aims to ensure continuous improvement and support for taxpayers in a way that benefits both the taxpayers and the national economy.
