Egypt eyes $1b annual exports in Marble, Granite
Egypt seeks to develop Shaq el-Thoaban area into a major industrial hub for marble and granite, aiming to boost local manufacturing, manage waste effectively, and increase sector exports to one billion dollars annually.
The announcement was made by Minister of Trade and Industry Ahmed Samir on Monday at the ceremony to issue industrial licenses in Shaq el-Thoaban area, according to the Cabinet statement.
The area is being transformed into a modern, specialised, and integrated industrial city in the marble and granite sector, with a focus on environmental considerations and safe waste management.
Egypt initiated the National Industrial Localisation Programme, which aims to develop a diverse industrial base of local suppliers and has introduced the first registered Egyptian brand, “Proudly Made in Egypt,” aligning with Egypt’s strategy to double industrial growth rates and deepen local industry.
