Egypt eyes expanded renewable energy partnership with BP

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi expressed Egypt’s intention to expand cooperation with British Petroleum (BP) to include renewable and clean energy, particularly given Egypt’s promising potential in green hydrogen production.

This statement came during a meeting with BP CEO Murray Auchincloss on Monday, where President Sisi praised BP’s activities in Egypt’s gas and oil sectors and its development of various fields.

He welcomed BP’s increased investments in Egypt’s energy sector and emphasised the government’s commitment to facilitating the operations of international companies and encouraging greater private sector involvement in this vital industry.

The president also highlighted Egypt’s ambition to become a regional hub for green hydrogen production and export, as well as the government’s efforts to integrate global companies into clean and renewable energy projects with low emissions.

In response, Auchincloss highlighted BP’s plans to undertake clean and renewable energy projects, aligning with Egypt’s priorities for sustainable energy development.
