Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met with officials from Shanghai’s Renji Smart Hospital to discuss cooperation in medical technology and smart hospital development, the Cabinet said on Saturday.
The meeting, held on the sidelines of Huawei Connect 2025 in Shanghai from 18 to 20 September, focused on AI- and IT-driven smart hospital solutions to enhance the efficiency and quality of healthcare services.
The visit included a field tour of Renji Hospital to review best practices in operating digital hospitals, discuss management models, academic cooperation, and specialised medical training, the statement added.
The discussions also covered advanced training programmes for Egyptian medical professionals in critical fields such as oncology, gynaecology, and major surgeries, supporting skills development and enhancing service quality.
The talks highlighted the role of digital transformation in advancing Egypt’s Vision 2030 health sector goals, stressing the importance of smart healthcare in improving operational efficiency, accessibility, and quality standards across medical facilities.
Following the meeting, Abdel Ghaffar toured Renji Hospital, one of China’s leading digital hospitals with 3,000 beds and 1,200 doctors, which runs an integrated digital system for patient records and advanced telemedicine services.
The facility also houses a digital command centre that uses AI-powered data collection and analysis to support fast and accurate clinical and administrative decision-making, enhancing performance and service quality.
The ministry said the visit reflects Egypt’s commitment to adopting international best practices and the latest technologies to develop its healthcare system in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and Egypt’s Vision 2030.
