Egypt eyes sustainable waste management in talks with UGOA
Egypt’s Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad held a meeting on Sunday with representatives from UGOA to explore collaboration on enhancing the country’s integrated waste management system, as per a Cabinet statement.
The discussions focused on innovative and sustainable solutions to drive environmental and economic development. UGOA presented its implementation plan to support the ministry’s efforts in improving waste management infrastructure nationwide. The company also outlined its vision for sustainable resource management, investment opportunities in the sector, and compliance with Waste Management Law No. 202 of 2020.
The meeting tackled key areas of cooperation, including technical support for recycling industries, integrating the informal sector, and promoting the extended producer responsibility principle. The talks also addressed efforts to reduce single-use plastic consumption.
Fouad affirmed that a roadmap would be developed in the coming period to implement UGOA’s proposals, reinforcing public-private partnerships to advance Egypt’s green economy and sustainability goals.
