Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El Wazir held a meeting with French Ambassador to Egypt Éric Chevallier to follow up on the Cairo Metro Line 6 project roadmap and the Alstom industrial complex in Alexandria.
El Wazir stated that Egypt’s Ministry of Transport has been finalising the route allocation while France has commissioned consultancy firm Egis-Citec to submit documents related to systems and civil works to the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT).
Discussions also covered the establishment of Alstom’s large-scale industrial complex in Borg El Arab, Alexandria, spanning 40 acres.
The site will include two factories: one for railway electrical systems and components and another for manufacturing various rolling stock, including metro trains, trams, monorails, and high-speed rail units.
The project aims to cater to the local market and boost exports to the Middle East and Africa.
Both sides further discussed ongoing negotiations between NAT and France’s Alstom on the management, operation, and maintenance of Egypt’s monorail projects.
