Egypt, Germany explore collaboration for UN Water Conference 2026

Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Swailam on Thursday held a meeting with Director of Water at Germany’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Miriam Haritz on the sidelines of the World Water Week held in Stockholm.

The meeting focused on preparations for the 2026 United Nations Water Conference and discussed proposals for joint cooperation in leading one of the conference’s interactive water dialogues.

Dr Swailam highlighted the importance of the conference as a pivotal milestone for shaping the UN’s water agenda beyond 2028 and 2030, particularly through the fifth interactive dialogue on water in multilateral processes.

He emphasised the need for the conference outcomes to be practical and linked to specific, actionable commitments.
