Egypt’s Deputy Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Sayed Ismail met with representatives of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) to follow up on the implementation of the Urban Water Catalyst Initiative (UWCI), which aims to improve water services in Luxor.
The project seeks to enhance the performance of the Luxor Water and Wastewater Company and support its climate resilience, with a particular focus on achieving Sustainable Development Goals 6 (clean water and sanitation) and 13 (climate action).
It also aims to strengthen the company’s financial sustainability, improve service quality, and expand water and sanitation coverage.
The initiative is supported through a grant funded by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), GIZ, the German Development Bank (KfW), WaterWorX, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Dutch water operators’ association VEI.
