Egypt, global firms discuss gas production, LNG infrastructure at Gastech 2025

Egypt held high-level talks with international energy companies on the sidelines of the Gastech 2025 Conference and Exhibition, focusing on boosting gas production, infrastructure, and clean energy cooperation.

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawy  met with Mathios Rigas, CEO of Energean, to review ongoing cooperation in gas fields at North Idku, North Amreya, and Abu Qir. Energean presented a comprehensive technical plan for these areas, while both sides underscored the need to accelerate drilling in the company’s Western Desert concession. Discussions also explored new exploration opportunities in the Mediterranean and the use of advanced technologies to improve efficiency in Egypt’s exploration and production operations.

In another meeting, Badawy  met with Morten Høegh, Chairman of Norway’s Höegh LNG, and CEO Erik Nyheim. Talks addressed existing cooperation in LNG import infrastructure, including the Höegh Galleon, the first regasification vessel operating at SUMED Port in Ain Sokhna. The discussions highlighted the importance of LNG imports in securing Egypt’s energy needs and strengthening its infrastructure.

The meetings also covered cooperation in clean energy and carbon reduction projects, as well as training and capacity-building programmes to enhance Egyptian expertise in LNG trade and handling.
