Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum signed a memorandum of understanding with Greece’s Ministry of Environment and Energy on Tuesday to collaborate on carbon capture, storage, and utilisation. The agreement, signed on the sidelines of the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPS 2025), aligns with both countries’ efforts to cut carbon emissions in the energy sector and promote low-carbon economies.
Under the agreement, Egypt and Greece will exchange expertise on carbon capture and storage technologies, ensuring compliance with environmental standards and regulations. The partnership will also leverage Greece’s experience in developing regulatory frameworks for this field.
The collaboration includes exploring economic models, conducting feasibility studies, and assessing potential industrial applications for captured carbon dioxide, supporting the transition to a sustainable economy.
Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawy highlighted Egypt’s ambition to become a future exporter of captured carbon dioxide to European markets for industrial use.
