Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IBM, on the sidelines of the US-Egypt Policy Leaders Forum, to support national efforts to develop specialised expertise in artificial intelligence (AI), targeting the training of 100,000 individuals over five years.
Under the agreement, 20,000 people will be trained annually through IBM’s SkillsBuild platform, which offers foundational and advanced learning paths in AI, data science, cybersecurity, and quantum computing. Participants will receive recognised digital credentials and benefit from career guidance, development plans, and hands-on project experience.
Moreover, the programme targets students, job seekers, and professionals. MCIT will coordinate the selection of qualified participants—including young talent, developers, government employees, technicians, and experts—and integrate IBM’s involvement in national AI events.
IBM will also promote global best practices across sectors, raise awareness of the Egyptian Charter for Responsible AI, and facilitate knowledge exchange. The CIT Minister described the collaboration as a key step in expanding Egypt’s AI talent pool and advancing digital transformation.
Initiative launched to accelerate AI adoption
The forum also introduced a broader initiative to accelerate AI adoption in strategic sectors, with the participation of MCIT, priority ministries, AmCham, American tech companies, and business communities from both countries. The initiative aims to support startups, promote digital skills and AI education, foster public-private partnerships, and raise awareness of AI’s benefits and risks through campaigns, forums, and workshops.
