Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) head Ali El-Ghamrawy has held a meeting with a high-level World Bank delegation led by Senior Advisor for Healthcare Emerging Markets Amr Douban to discuss cooperation on a national initiative to localise the medical supplies industry.
Talks covered EDA’s central role as regulator of all medical supplies in the Egyptian market, along with challenges in industrial infrastructure, technology transfer and capacity building.
Discussions also addressed developing regulatory frameworks to ensure the availability of safe, effective and high-quality medical products.
El-Ghamrawy said localising medical supplies is a cornerstone of achieving self-sufficiency and strengthening health security. He noted the authority is working to create an attractive regulatory environment for investment and to support international partnerships that boost local industry.
The World Bank delegation expressed strong interest in the initiative, confirming readiness to explore technical and financial cooperation mechanisms, including project funding, knowledge transfer and private sector partnerships to expand local manufacturing.
