Egypt inks accord to build major wind energy plant

The Egyptian Electricity Transmission (EETC) and the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) signed two agreements with the consortium, comprising Masdar and Infinity, to establish a 200-megawatt wind power plant in the Gulf of Suez.

This initiative aligns with the country’s strategy to enhance the role of renewable energy in its energy mix and support the private sector in developing solar and wind power generation stations.

Under the agreements, the consortium will develop, finance, and operate the project, which is expected to begin commercial operations in October 2026.

The project will contribute to increasing the share of renewable energy in Egypt’s electricity mix and support the nation’s renewable energy goals.
