Egypt inks agreement with China’s Dongfeng to produce electric cars
Egyptian state-run automaker El Nasr Automotive Manufacturing signed on Monday a framework agreement with China’s Dongfeng Motor Industry Import and Export Company to produce electric cars in Egypt.
Egyptian Minister of Public Business Sector Hisham Tawfiq said El Nasr is stepping towards deepening and transferring the industry of A70 electric vehicles as part of a project meant to reduce emissions and limit the use of fossil fuels that have negative impact on citizens.
Tawfiq added that two contracts were signed with Dongfeng, which produces about 3.5 million A70 electric cars per year.
The first contract aims to produce electric cars in Egypt within the framework of bilateral partnership and cooperation that benefit both sides, the minister said.
As for the second contract, it entails the rehabilitation of one of the factories affiliated to Egypt’s holding company for producing electric cars, he noted.
