Egypt inspects 500 fuel stations for violations in last week of March
The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPA) inspected over 500 fuel stations nationwide in the last week of March, intensifying oversight of petroleum product distribution, according to the Ministry of Petroleum on Sunday.
The authority tightened control over the trading and distribution system, covering all 27 governorates to ensure stable supplies and prevent illegal practices. Surprise inspections, both day and night, reviewed inventories, calibrated pumps, and checked storage safety.
Violations included the illegal disposal of 7,000 litres of diesel in Alexandria, tampering of 21,000 litres of fuel in Qalyubia, pump miscalibration at three Minya stations, and water contamination in four diesel tanks in Cairo. Illegal loading using containers was also detected in Beni Suef and Qalyubia.
Authorities confiscated the seized quantities, filed reports, and referred cases to relevant bodies. The committee is following up on technical corrections, highlighting the effectiveness of ongoing inspections in safeguarding the market.
