Egypt intensifies efforts to boost renewable energy under national strategy

Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly on Monday reviewed progress in implementing the National Integrated Sustainable Energy Strategy, part of the government’s plan to expand clean energy, cut reliance on fossil fuels, and advance sustainable development goals.

Madbouly reaffirmed the state’s target to raise the share of renewable energy in Egypt’s power mix to more than 42 per cent by 2030 and over 60 per cent by 2040. He stressed the importance of attracting new investment to strengthen the sector’s role in driving national development.

Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mahmoud Esmat outlined ongoing efforts to boost renewable output by localising advanced technologies and expanding cooperation with the private sector. He said the ministry was updating its work plan to meet energy mix targets, improve efficiency, and promote energy conservation in line with global renewable and storage trends.

Esmat also highlighted projects to reinforce the national grid and ensure stable power supply, including the construction of new transformer stations such as the East Owainat facility in New Valley Governorate, which supports agricultural and agro-industrial expansion under the state’s sustainable development plan.
