Egypt invests EGP 720m in irrigation maintenance
The Egyptian government has invested approximately EGP 600 million during fiscal year 2023/2024, in addition to EGP 120 million allocated for maintenance and overhauls.
Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Hani Sewilam, emphasised that the efforts of the electro-mechanical authority, an affiliate of the Ministry of Irrigation, along with other ministry initiatives, have significantly improved water management and distribution systems.
These measures ensured that water needs were met during peak demand periods. The authority is committed to implementing regular maintenance and overhaul programme across stations nationwide, totaling approximately 403 overhauls, to ensure the readiness of lifting units for peak demand season.
