Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawy met with Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdulghani on Monday to explore ways to deepen cooperation in the petroleum sector.
The discussions centered on maximising oil and gas production, leveraging Egypt’s refining and petrochemical infrastructure, and enhancing regional energy trade. The two ministers reaffirmed their commitment to integrating their industries for mutual benefit.
A key focus was refining collaboration, with plans to transport Iraqi crude to Egyptian refineries for processing, enabling wider access to regional and global markets. They also discussed updating an existing memorandum of understanding to expand cooperation into new areas, particularly renewable energy.
The meeting highlighted the role of Egyptian companies in Iraq’s energy sector, emphasising their expertise in project design, implementation, maintenance, and operations. Both sides agreed to form a joint steering committee to oversee the implementation of their initiatives.
