Egypt, Iraq FMs stress joint action at Doha summit sidelines

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Atty and his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein agreed on Sunday to strengthen economic and investment cooperation and coordinate more closely on regional security, the Egyptian foreign ministry said.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the Arab–Islamic extraordinary summit in Doha, followed the work of the Egyptian-Iraqi joint higher committee, which both ministers said had delivered tangible results.

Abdel-Atty and Hussein condemned Israel’s military actions in Gaza and voiced solidarity with Qatar after what they described as recent Israeli aggression against its territory. They said such actions undermine regional stability and constitute violations of Arab sovereignty.

Both ministers reiterated that peace in the Middle East requires a comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue on the basis of a two-state solution, including the establishment of a Palestinian state on the June 4th, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
