Egypt, Japan’s JICA discuss deeper SME cooperation in industry sectors
Egypt’s Medium, Small, and Micro Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA) held talks on Sunday with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to explore expanding technical support for Egyptian SMEs in industrial and productive sectors.
MSMEDA CEO Basil Rahmi met with Ebisawa Yu, JICA’s newly appointed Chief Representative in Egypt, to review progress on a joint technical cooperation project and discuss future areas of collaboration, according to a statement from the agency.
The project currently supports food-processing businesses in Minya and the plastics industry in Alexandria by offering development services and applying Japanese technical standards to boost productivity and competitiveness.
Rahmi emphasized MSMEDA’s commitment to leveraging Japanese expertise to raise the quality of local production, reduce imports, and help ease foreign currency pressures.
Talks also focused on enhancing cooperation in feeder industries, which are seen as essential to strengthening Egypt’s industrial value chains.
Ebisawa praised the partnership and said JICA is ready to scale up cooperation to further support the growth of Egyptian small and medium-sized enterprises.
