Egypt, Jordan enhance joint planning efforts – Cabinet

Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development Rania Al-Mashat and her Jordanian counterpart Zeina Toukan discussed enhancing partnerships to exchange expertise in development planning and economic policy, the Cabinet said on Wednesday.

During the 33rd session of the Egyptian-Jordanian Joint Higher Committee, they reviewed the cooperation programme between Egypt’s Institute of National Planning and Jordan’s Planning Ministry.
Al Mashat expressed her welcome for cooperation and the exchange of expertise in development planning and sustainable development, through the activation of the memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries in Amman in August 2023. The memorandum covers promising areas, most notably cooperation in planning, capacity-building through training programmes, workshops, and discussion sessions in planning, strategic planning, governance, sustainable development, and competitiveness

Al-Mashat underscored the pivotal role of the committee as one of the oldest bilateral Arab committees, contributing across 32 sessions to advancing economic, trade, investment, and cultural cooperation while overcoming obstacles to joint initiatives.

The ministers commended the collaboration in development planning and sustainable growth under an MoU signed in August 2023 in Amman. The agreement includes training programmes, workshops, and forums on strategic planning, governance, sustainable development, and competitiveness.

Al-Mashat highlighted the importance of exchanging expertise on governance and sustainable development, including lessons from OECD-led public governance reviews and voluntary local reporting (VLRs).

The meeting also covered joint coordination in international forums, including the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development, to support reforms in the global financial system and the UN.
