Egypt keeps customs system running during Eid to safeguard trade flows
Egypt’s Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade said Monday it will keep the country’s customs clearance system fully operational during the Eid al-Fitr holiday to ensure uninterrupted trade and supply chain stability.
Minister Mohamed Farid said all customs ports will operate normally on Thursday, 19 March, with the holiday limited to the first two days of Eid for clearance-related entities, including the Customs Authority, banks, and regulatory agencies. Operations are scheduled to resume on the third day of the holiday.
“Customs operations will continue under close coordination with all relevant authorities to remove any obstacles and support smooth trade activities during the holiday,” Farid said.
The ministry highlighted that uninterrupted customs operations are crucial to maintaining steady domestic supply, preventing bottlenecks in the flow of goods, and avoiding price increases for consumers. Measures also aim to shorten clearance times and reduce logistics costs, supporting both the competitiveness of the Egyptian economy and domestic manufacturers.
