Egypt launches 200MW solar plant in Aswan
Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy announced the commissioning of a new 200MW solar power plant in Kom Ombo, Aswan.
The $168-million-project, developed by ACWA Power, aims to support the state’s goal of increasing clean energy’s share to 42 per cent by 2030.
The project, is partially financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the African Development Bank (AfdB), and will provide sufficient energy to power 130,000 households and save around 15 million cubic metres of natural gas monthly.
The plant features 387,465 state-of-the-art bifacial solar panels and 952 inverters across 4.8 square kilometres, contributing to an annual reduction of 280,000 tons of CO2 emissions.
