Egypt launches first AI diploma for banking sector

Egypt’s Central Bank, in collaboration with Newgiza University, has launched the first specialised diploma in artificial intelligence (AI) for banking professionals under the Digital Academy by Fintech Egypt.

According to the CBE statement, the programme aims to equip banking and financial personnel with advanced fintech and AI skills, supporting the country’s digital transformation strategy.

Hassan Abdalla, Governor of the CBE, said the diploma aligns with the bank’s fintech and innovation strategy to position Egypt as a regional hub for the Arab and African fintech industry and to prepare a new generation of qualified professionals. He highlighted AI’s growing role in data analysis, forecasting, decision-making, enhancing customer experience, and improving operational efficiency and security in banking.

The diploma comprises five integrated training programs: Principles of Artificial Intelligence; Mastering AI Fundamentals; Data Management and Governance; AI Ethics and Risk Management; and AI Application and Management. Participants can complete the full diploma sequentially or join individual programs based on their professional goals.

The Digital Academy, launched in January 2023 in partnership with the Egyptian Banking Institute, has already introduced programmes in fintech innovation and Generative AI in Finance. The new diploma complements recent initiatives linking education to market needs, including the launch of Egypt’s first Bachelor’s degree in Banking Sciences in partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education, combining academic study and practical training to prepare graduates for immediate workforce integration.
