Egypt’s Minister of Transport, Kamel Al-Wazir, on Monday inaugurated the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) regional office for Arab States in the Middle East and North Africa at the Egyptian Authority for Maritime Safety, according to a Cabinet statement on Monday.
This achievement boosts Egypt’s pivotal role in regional and international maritime transport, showcasing the country’s leadership as a bridge for cooperation among nations in the region, Al-Wazir said.
Egypt has expanded its port infrastructure with 18 ports now in operation, making it a key player in regional and global trade. Investments are focused on upgrading facilities to accommodate larger vessels and offer advanced maritime services, the minister said.
Al-Wazir added that the country is committed to upholding international agreements on maritime transport, navigation safety, and marine environment set by the IMO, solidifying its role as a trusted partner in the global maritime sector.
