Egypt launches new phase of wheat initiative to boost self-sufficiency

Egypt has launched the fourth season of its Ezraa (Plant) Initiative to expand wheat cultivation for the 2025/26 season, aiming to enhance food security and support small farmers, the Cabinet said on Thursday.

The programme, implemented by the Coptic Evangelical Organisation for Social Services (CEOSS) under the National Alliance for Civil Development Work (NACDW), targets the cultivation of 250,000 feddans of wheat across 16 governorates from Beheira to Aswan.

Seed distribution has already begun, with technical assistance provided by the Agricultural Research Centre and agricultural faculties through field schools and on-site guidance, the statement said.

Financed by the ministry of social solidarity, the initiative provides certified seeds, training, and modern agricultural practices to improve productivity and advance Egypt’s wheat self-sufficiency goals.
