Egypt–Lebanon trade hits $1b in ’24 – CAPMAS

Trade volume between Egypt and Lebanon increased by 29.3 per cent to $1 billion in 2024, compared to $774 million a year earlier, according to recent figures published by Egypt’s state statistics agency, CAPMAS, on Monday.

Egyptian export to Lebanon reached $762.8 million in 2024, compared to $530.4 million in 2023, 43.8 per cent rise. Meanwhile, imports from Lebanon amounted to $237.7 million in 2024, down from $243.4 million in 2023 – a decrease of 2.3 per cent.

Top Egyptian Exports to Lebanon in 2024:

  1. Fuel, mineral oils, and distillation products – $215 million
  2. Iron and steel products – $65 million
  3. Cement – $55 million
  4. Vegetables and fruits – $48 million
  5. Sugar and sugar products – $41 million

Top Imports from Lebanon to Egypt in 2024:

  1. Iron and steel products – $118 million
  2. Fruits – $72 million
  3. Electrical machinery and equipment – $22 million
  4. Plastics – $4 million
  5. Tanning and dyeing extracts – $4 million

Remittances of Egyptian expats in Lebanon totalled $42.9 million during 2023/2024, compared to $38.1 million in 2022/2023. In contrast, Lebanese remittances reached $3.5 million in 2023/2024, down slightly from $3.7 million in 2022/2023.

Lebanese investments in Egypt were valued at $51.2 million during the 2023/2024 financial year, compared to $51.4 million in 2022/2023. Egyptian investments in Lebanon amounted to $9.7 million in 2023/2024, up from $7.9 million in 2022/2023.
