Egypt’s Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Wednesday with Myanmar’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation to expand cooperation in agriculture and related fields, the Egyptian ministry said in a statement.
The agreement seeks to enhance collaboration across key sectors, particularly cotton, potatoes, agribusiness management, agricultural research and development, and modern biotechnology.
The memorandum outlines a series of executive measures to turn this cooperation into practical outcomes. Under the MoU, the two countries will exchange seeds, planting materials, expertise, and technical data, and will launch joint research projects, training programmes, and expert exchanges to promote production, manufacturing, and marketing of agricultural products.
Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk said the partnership represents a step forward in strengthening South-South cooperation and underscores Egypt’s commitment to advancing food security and agricultural development through international collaboration.
He added that focusing on strategic crops and research-based innovation would help transfer technology and develop improved crop varieties, benefiting farmers and supporting both economies.
