Egypt names Mohamed El Gawsaky to lead Investment, Free Zones Authority
Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly has appointed Mohamed El Gawsaky as the executive director of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) for a one-year term, the government said on Sunday.
The move is part of Cairo’s broader strategy to strengthen the investment climate and attract foreign direct investment to support economic growth.
El Gawsaky, a seasoned professional with more than 20 years of experience in the public and private sectors, currently serves as Assistant Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade for Planning, Trade, and Digital Transformation. In this role, he has led initiatives to expand Egypt’s foreign trade capacity and foster international partnerships.
He previously served as Undersecretary at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, heading the Central Department for International Relations, which liaised between the government, international organisations, and multinational companies to promote investment in the ICT sector.
Before joining the government, El Gawsaky also spent over 15 years in the private sector in senior executive roles across the Middle East, North Africa, and emerging markets, overseeing business development, strategy, and technology adoption.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from Ain Shams University and an MBA with honours from the American University in Cairo (AUC).
