Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly met his Nepalese counterpart KP Sharma Oli on the sidelines of the UN’s 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4) on Tuesday, with both leaders expressing interest in expanding bilateral ties across trade, investment, and education.
Representing President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the Seville-hosted summit, Prime Minister Madbouly proposed convening the long-dormant Egypt-Nepal joint committee and organising a business forum to encourage deeper private sector cooperation.
He emphasised the historical depth of relations between the two countries, noting that Egypt was the first African nation to recognise Nepal. He also highlighted alignment on key regional and international issues, urging stronger economic engagement to match their political ties.
The Egyptian prime minister pointed to opportunities in higher education, particularly with Nepalese students currently studying at Al-Azhar University in Cairo. He extended an invitation to Oli to visit Egypt for further bilateral talks.
Oli, in response, praised Egypt’s longstanding support for Nepal and said he looks forward to participating in the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum once a new date is confirmed. He expressed interest in strengthening cooperation across multiple sectors.
