Egypt’s Minister of Public Business Sector, Mohamed Shimy met on Wednesday with Scatec CEO Terje Pilskog to discuss investment opportunities and joint renewable energy projects, with a focus on advancing Egypt’s clean energy transition.
On the sidelines of EGYPS 2025, the two officials reviewed progress on a 1-gigawatt solar power plant set to supply clean energy to the Nag Hammadi Aluminium Complex.
Minister Shimy emphasised the strong economic partnership between Egypt and Norway, highlighting the significance of renewable energy cooperation. He noted that the solar project aligns with Egypt’s carbon reduction strategy while improving energy efficiency in key industries.
He further stressed that the initiative would reduce operational costs, enhance the global competitiveness of the aluminium complex, and support Egypt’s long-term sustainability goals.
