Egypt partners with China to build 1st ultrasound devices facility

Egypt is partnering with China to produce its first locally manufactured ultrasound device in April, with an annual target of 2,500 units, Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar announced on Wednesday.

The announcement follows Minister Abdel Ghaffar witnessing the signing of a cooperation protocol between Tatweer Medical Industries and Mindray, a leading Chinese medical device manufacturer, to establish Egypt’s first ultrasound device manufacturing plant. The initiative aims to boost local medical manufacturing, reduce reliance on imports, and enhance healthcare services.

After the signing, the minister met with company representatives, emphasising the partnership’s key role in boosting Egypt’s medical industry, meeting the healthcare sector’s demand for advanced equipment, and reducing reliance on imports. He reaffirmed the Ministry of Health’s full commitment to the project, ensuring the necessary resources, technology transfer, and specialized training for Egyptian engineers and technicians to guarantee its success.

Hisham Abu Stait, Chairman of the Unified Procurement Authority, emphasised the project’s role in achieving self-sufficiency in medical equipment.

This partnership marks a strategic milestone in Egypt’s efforts to localise medical device production, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective healthcare solutions for the future.
