Private sector’s firms have imported meats with total cost of EGP1.5 billion (US$ 196.6million) for the Holy Month of Ramadan, Head of the Egyptian Meat Importers Association Alaa Radwan announced Thursday.
Radwan noted that the amounts of imported meat for Ramadan have been decreased by 25% to record 40,000 tonns compared to previous Ramadan.
The head said that major amounts of imported meats are form Brazil and India in addition to other amounts imported form U.S.A., Uruguay, and Argentina.
Moreover, the prices of frozen meat are expected to increase by 25% in the Holy Month to hit 35 Egyptian pounds per kilo due to the increase in dollar prices, Radwan stated.
