Egypt plans green hydrogen export hub, global hyperscale data centre in Sinai

Egypt’s Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade is advancing plans for the country’s largest integrated green energy project and a $1 billion hyperscale data centre in Sinai, the ministry said Tuesday.

Minister Mohamed Farid Saleh met with executives from Renergy Group to review the green energy project, which combines solar power, green hydrogen, and battery storage across a 127-square-kilometre site with a 4-kilometre Red Sea frontage. The project is designed to produce 400,000 tons of liquid green hydrogen annually for export to Europe, with an initial phase of 160,000 tons per year.

Renergy also proposed a global hyperscale data centre powered entirely by the renewable energy generated on-site. The centre would initially cover 10,000 square metres with expansion plans reaching 500,000 square metres, using seawater cooling to attract multinational companies seeking green data solutions.

“Egypt is opening exceptional opportunities for projects that integrate high added value with environmental sustainability,” Farid said, adding that the government seeks partnerships that place the country at the center of global clean energy and green data supply chains.

The ministry requested a full technical and financial dossier from the alliance, including feasibility studies, project structure, and investor participation. He emphasised the importance of the full coordination with the Ministries of Communications and Electricity, the Sinai Development Authority, and security authorities to ensure compliance with national security and technical standards.

Renergy executives praised the ministry’s responsiveness and said Japanese investors have shown preliminary interest in financing the data centre as part of the strategic expansion.

The project forms part of Egypt’s broader push to attract large-scale strategic investments in clean energy and high-tech infrastructure, reinforcing its position as a regional hub for renewable energy and digital services.
