Egypt plans higher government spending on health, education

Egypt plans to increase government investment in priority sectors including health, education, and infrastructure under its 2026/2027 Economic and Social Development Plan, the Egyptian Cabinet said on Thursday.

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly reviewed the proposed allocations during a meeting at the government headquarters in the New Capital, attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Hussein Eissa, Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk, Planning and Economic Development Minister Ahmed Rostom, and senior officials.

Madbouly said the government is prioritising human development sectors, particularly health and education, alongside infrastructure projects aimed at improving public services.

Rostom said the plan includes increased funding for sectors such as healthcare, education, electricity projects, and the universal health insurance system, as well as the Hayah Karima Initiative, which targets development in rural and underserved areas.

“The plan envisages higher investments in key sectors to support sustainable development and improve services nationwide,” Rostom said.
