Egypt plans to build desalination plant in Iraq’s Euphrates
Egypt will establish a water treatment plant in Iraq to purify and desalinate water for Euphrates River and confront the water shortage of the river in three governates, Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation’s spokesman, said.
Egyptian Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Muhammad Abdul Ati held a meeting with consultant for the Bahr Al-Baqar water treatment plant Mohamed Heikal, and representatives of Orascom Construction to discuss the outcomes of the Egyptian delegation’s visited Iraq.
The plant will be similar to the Egyptian Bahr al-Baqar sewage treatment plant, stated in the statement.
Abdul Ati assured on the exchange of technical visits between the two countries to benefit from the Egyptian experiences in water management field.
Moreover, Abdul Ati stressed on the necessity of cooperation in water sector in light of the challenges that face Egypt and Iraq.
He keens to participate in the Baghdad International Water Conference, and a distinguished participation of the Iraqi delegation in the Cairo Water Week.
