Egypt PM reaffirms govt. interest in boosting local industry
Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli reaffirmed the state’s interest in supporting the industrial sector, which contributes to achieving more sustainable development goals and reaching the desired economic growth rates. He also highlighted the role of military production companies in localising many industries and supporting local manufacturing efforts in various sectors.
To this effect, Minister of State for Military Production, Mohamed Salah El-Din Mostafa stated that a public transit bus powered by clean energy has been designed and produced in Egypt to stimulate the green economy, in cooperation with MCV. A total of 110 buses have been produced and supplied to Cairo and Alexandria governorates, while a contract has been signed to supply 100 electric BRT buses.
Minister Mostafa told the prime minister that a contract was signed to convert 2,262 buses over six years for the public transport authorities in Cairo and Alexandria
He added that a contract was also signed with Bajaj Egypt to assemble vehicles to replace tuk-tuks, with 2,800 vehicles per year in the first phase, at a rate of 250 vehicles per month. The second phase will include joint manufacturing with a total production of 20,000 to 30,000 vehicles annually, at a rate of 2,500 vehicles per month, with a local manufacturing rate of up to 45%.
