Egypt prioritises green hydrogen for climate goals

Egypt is committed to achieving its climate goals, with a focus on expanding reliance on green hydrogen, stated Hossam Heiba, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), cited by the Egyptian Cabinet on Sunday.

He highlighted Egypt’s investment climate, including the activation of sectoral investment incentives and the establishment of a unified Golden License unit for all permits necessary for company establishment and operation.

These remarks were made during his participation in the World Hydrogen Summit 2024, held in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

In a panel discussion titled “Opportunities for Co-operation in Green Hydrogen between Egypt and the Netherlands,” attendees discussed ways to support the energy transition and means to maximise the role of governments, the private sector, and financial institutions in achieving global goals towards green energy.
Heiba further presented all incentives provided in Egypt for the green hydrogen sector and reviewed investment regulations suitable for green hydrogen projects, highlighting opportunities for co-operation between Egypt and the Netherlands in the field.

It is worth mentioning that the African Hydrogen Forum was launched during the event, facilitating knowledge exchange among African countries regarding infrastructure readiness and investment legislation to attract investments in the green hydrogen sector.
