Egypt’s Ministry of Finance has allocated 2.5 billion Egyptian pounds to the Unified Procurement Authority (UPA) as part of ongoing efforts to clear debts to pharmaceutical companies. Moreover, the Ministry of Health and Population also contributed 1.7 billion Egyptian pounds to help settle outstanding dues.
This came during a meeting on Monday chaired by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, to review medicine availability and the settlement of payments, highlighting the government’s efforts to maintain a stable healthcare system.
In addition, the General Authority for Health Insurance disburses 2 billion Egyptian pounds monthly, while the Universal Health Insurance Authority (UHIA) is also committed to settling its dues.
Madbouly emphasised that securing a sustainable and safe strategic stock of medicines and medical supplies is a top priority, with continuous monitoring essential to prevent shortages and ensure uninterrupted healthcare services. The meeting reaffirmed the state’s commitment to timely payments and ongoing coordination with relevant authorities to maintain a steady medicine supply.
