Egypt pushes green building, property exports – Housing Min.

Egypt’s Minister of Housing Sherif El-Sherbiny met with leading real estate developers to present the country’s national strategy for green and sustainable urban development, the Cabinet said in a statement on Wednesday.

The meeting, attended by officials from the ministry of housing and the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA), also reviewed steps to launch a new platform aimed at marketing Egyptian real estate to international buyers.

El-Sherbiny said the green urban strategy is a cornerstone of Egypt’s broader sustainable development goals and part of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives to advance a green economy.

He highlighted the importance of leveraging digital transformation and governance reforms to increase the global appeal of Egyptian real estate, in coordination with the Ministry of Communications.

The strategy outlines clear environmental standards and incentives for developers, including tax breaks, access to financing, priority land allocation, and simplified procedures for green-certified projects.

Requirements for compliance include the use of energy- and water-efficient materials, recycled construction inputs, and energy-saving lighting systems.

Officials also discussed the upcoming Egyptian Real Estate Export Platform, focusing on secure transactions, governance, investor protections, and alignment with international standards.

Developers welcomed the government’s push, describing the green building strategy and export platform as key tools to modernise the sector and attract foreign investment.
