Egypt pushes modernisation at Helwan Non-Ferrous Factory

Egypt’s Minister of State for Military Production, Mohamed Salah El-Din toured the Helwan Company for Non-Ferrous Industries (Factory 63) to evaluate production efficiency and accelerate modernisation efforts, the ministry said Wednesday.

Minister Salah El-Din inspected critical operations including the Japanese press, Loma foundry, CNC workshop, and storage facilities, emphasising governance, cost control, and maximising equipment use. The factory supplies certified copper and aluminum alloys essential for manufacturing ammunition across military calibers, while also producing low-voltage conductors and insulated cables for civilian markets — efforts aimed at cutting Egypt’s import dependence.

Aligned with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s vision, the minister urged faster localisation of advanced manufacturing technologies, boosting local content, and increasing value addition to the national economy. He highlighted the need to meet project deadlines without compromising quality and called for attracting private and foreign investment.

Meeting with factory staff, Minister Salah El-Din encouraged innovation and productivity improvements, praising recent progress as critical for Egypt’s industrial competitiveness and future growth. The visit signals intensified focus on upgrading Egypt’s defence industrial base amid broader economic reforms.
