Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar has chaired the inaugural meeting of the coordinating committee for the access of Egyptian pharmaceuticals to global markets, as per a Cabinet statement.
Abdel Ghaffar announced progress in key areas to boost pharmaceutical exports, with plans for technical subcommittees awaiting Cabinet approval. He emphasised the need to form an executive office to drive implementation and speed up progress.
Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atty highlighted Egypt’s advanced capabilities to address Africa’s healthcare needs through drug exports, medical missions, and establishing small medical centres in hospitals.
He confirmed the Foreign Ministry’s sustained support, with Egyptian embassies having standing procedures to promote medical exports and health tourism while actively participating in international medical exhibitions.
The meeting focused on the progress made in setting up a specialised body to promote pharmaceutical exports, with Egypt aiming to achieve $5 billion in medical exports by 2030, the statement added.
Talks also addressed streamlining customs procedures, aligning state efforts to support the sector, analysing global market size and focusing on leading export destinations in 2024, as well as projections for Egyptian exports in the coming years.
