Egypt maintained its position as the world’s second-largest exporter of fresh or chilled tilapia fish in 2024, with a 20 per cent share of global exports, according to official data from the Food Export Council (FEC) on Monday.
The country exported 17,000 tons of tilapia valued at $9.4 million last year, maintaining its strong presence in global markets. From 2020 to 2024, the country’s tilapia exports grew by an average of 2 per cent in value and 12 per cent in volume annually.
The UAE was the top destination in 2024, accounting for 61 per cent of Egypt’s tilapia exports at $5.7 million. Other major importers included Kuwait, Qatar, Tunisia, Libya, Bahrain, Canada, and Jordan.
These markets represented 100 per cent of Egypt’s total tilapia exports in 2024, underscoring the strong demand and confidence in the quality of Egyptian fish products, the statement added.
