Egypt ranked second worldwide in exports of sugar beet pulp, bagasse and other sugar industry by-products in 2024, holding an 18 per cent share of the global market, the Food Export Council (FEC) said Sunday.
Exports totalled 642,000 tons last year, worth $114 million, the council said. Annual export value for the category rose 6 per cent between 2020 and 2024, while volumes grew 5 per cent over the same period.
Spain was the top destination, buying $25 million worth of Egyptian beet pulp and bagasse, followed by Denmark at $15 million, South Korea at $14.4 million, Saudi Arabia at $13.6 million and Japan at $8 million. These five markets accounted for about two-thirds of total exports.
The FEC said the sustained growth reflects Egypt’s competitiveness in the global market for agricultural by-products and creates opportunities to expand into new export markets.
