Egypt registers 1,399 coronavirus cases – first decline in infections for a week

Egypt has confirmed on Monday 1,399 new cases of the novel coronavirus, according to a health ministry statement, its first decline for a week.

This is down from 1,536 registered the day before, but still almost double the number on the same day a week ago. This brings the total tally of infections to 26,384.

The country also reported 46 fatalities, bringing the total number of deaths to 1,005. However, the total number of recoveries surged to 6,297 on Monday, from 6,037 on Sunday, the statement said.
