Egypt’s government will step up market supervision to ensure fuel and butane gas cylinders are sold at official prices and prevent price manipulation, Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk said on Monday.
Farouk told members of the Petroleum and Mining Industries Chamber that authorities would take “firm and immediate” action against anyone involved in illegal trading, including depot owners, fuel station operators and distributors.
He said maintaining price stability and ensuring sufficient supplies of petroleum products were “a national responsibility,” requiring strict enforcement of regulations and close coordination among government agencies.
The meeting discussed proposals to improve petroleum product marketing, enhance service quality and strengthen cooperation between the ministry and industry bodies.
Farouk said the ministry was implementing ongoing measures to guarantee the steady availability of butane cylinders, supported by tighter market monitoring and coordination with relevant authorities.
