Egypt reinforces support for NEPAD, African development – PM

Egypt’s Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to working closely with New Partnership for Africa (NEPAD) and other African nations to advance the continent’s integration efforts.

Speaking at the sixth mid-year coordination meeting of the African Union (AU) in Accra, Ghana, the PM emphasised NEPAD’s crucial role in implementing African development agendas and securing essential funding for regional and continental projects.

Madbouly outlined Egypt’s presidential priorities, which focus on mobilising financial resources for key initiatives. These include funding infrastructure projects under the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA), developing green infrastructure corridors, and advancing both The African Continental Master Plan and the African Common Agricultural Policy.

Furthermore, the PM stressed the importance of accelerating the implementation of the Continental Free Trade Agreement (CFTA). He highlighted the need to link it with infrastructure development projects and activate the synergy between peace, security, and development. This approach aligns with the post-conflict reconstruction agenda led by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, in coordination with the AU Peace and Security Department and the AU Centre for Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development (PCRD), hosted in Cairo.

Madbouly also called for stronger global partnerships to support Africa’s development goals, urging major economic powers to fulfill their financial commitments. He pointed out that leveraging the AU’s recent G20 membership is a crucial step in amplifying the continent’s voice in global financial reforms, addressing the rising issue of African debt, and exploring innovative financing mechanisms.
