Egypt remittances jump 47% in first 8 months of 2025 — c.bank

Remittances from Egyptians working abroad surged 47.2 per cent in the first eight months of 2025 to $26.6 billion, up from $18.1 billion a year earlier, the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) said on Thursday.

The central bank said monthly inflows also remained strong, with August remittances increasing 32.6 per cent to $3.5 billion, compared with $2.6 billion in August 2024.

The pickup comes as Egypt continues to rebuild foreign currency sources and strengthen its external position after a prolonged liquidity squeeze triggered by currency pressures and global disruptions.

Remittances are a vital lifeline for the Egyptian economy, serving as one of the country’s largest sources of foreign exchange alongside tourism, Suez Canal revenues, and energy exports.
