Egypt renews commitment to ILO standards in Geneva

Egypt’s Minister of Labour Mohamed Gibran held a meeting with Director of the International Labour Standards Department at the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Corinne Vargha and Head of the Freedom of Association Branch at the ILO Karen Curtis.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the 113th International Labour Conference, took place at the United Nations Palace in Geneva from 2 June to 13 June 2025. It reaffirms Egypt’s commitment to strengthening cooperation on shared labour issues.

Gibran stressed Egypt’s dedication to upholding international labour standards and highlighted the new labour law, which reinforces trade union rights and freedoms. He also underlined the government’s commitment to maintaining the independence of the labour movement.

The minister reviewed Egypt’s ongoing efforts in promoting trade union freedoms, social dialogue, and the Better Work programme. The conference brings together representatives of governments, employers, and workers from around the world.
