Egypt reports 165 new coronavirus cases, 21 deaths on Wednesday
Egypt recorded 165 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, bringing the total infection tally to 99,280 since the outbreak mid-February, the health ministry announced.
The ministry also reported 21 new deaths, bringing the total deaths from the virus to 5,461.
The ministry added that 798 patients were discharged from hospitals over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 74,626.
Egypt fears a possible resurgence of infections particularly with the advent of autumn and the academic year.
Egypt pushed back the school year to begin on 17 October amid fears of second wave of the pandemic despite the noticeable increase the country have been witnessing recently. It is yet undecided if students will return to classrooms full-time.
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi directed on Wednesday that all precautionary measures be taken to protect students and teachers against the coronavirus pandemic.
